About Hurtigruten

When the Norwegian government decided to create a connection between the north and the south, Richard With and his friend, Anders Holthe, took on the challenge of thoroughly mapping the seas along the coastline. In 1893, Captain Richard With’s steamer, DS Vesteraalen, was brought into regular service along the coast of Norway and Hurtigruten were established. Over 120 years later, Hurtigruten is still a key part of Norwegian life.

Hurtigruten cruise ships

Known as the ‘greenest fleet in the world’, Hurtigruten is leading the way in innovative technology for green and clean exploration. With the introduction of hybrid powered ships, biodegradable hydraulic oils and lubricants as well as the promise to ban single use plastics with Hurtigruten, the future is green.

Each ship is designed to allow you to fully appreciate the spectacular scenery through which they sail. Comfortable cabins, panoramic lounges and a friendly atmosphere comprise the core of the on board experience. Informality is key, leaving you free to relax and enjoy the landscapes at will, whilst the modest size of the ships encourage passengers to interact with like-minded and interesting people.

The cruise line will dazzle you with their specialised destination focused itineraries. Travel with Hurtigruten and experience an ever changing landscape of sapphire fjords, snow-capped peaks, quaint farms and bustling fishing villages hugging the Norwegian coast line – not forgetting, of course, the Northern Lights.

The Northern Lights Promise

The Northern Lights Promise offers those travelling on Hurtigruten Northern Lights Voyage the security of knowing that if you do not experience the Northern Lights, you will receive a free voyage to try again. Terms & Conditions for the Northern Lights Promise can be found here.
